PRP & A2M Injections
PRP & A2M Injections
What Are PRP Injections:
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a blood plasma extract that has a high concentration of platelets derived from your own blood. Platelets contain growth factors with strong regenerative properties which can accelerate the healing of injured areas of the body including tendons, ligaments, and joints. PRP is injected directly into the area of damaged tissue. Below are the 3 primary effects of PRP injections:
- Cell Regeneration: The bioactive molecules in PRP promote tissue repair and healing
- Tissue Remodeling: PRP induces formation of new blood vessels and promotes cell differentiation
- Inflammation Modulation: Through the reduction of NF-Kβ, ROS, and promoting M2 macrophages, PRP achieves an anti-inflammatory effect
What Are A2M Injections:
A2M (Alpha-2-Macroglobulin) is a blood plasma extract that contains high concentrations of protein derived from your own blood. A2M is highly anti-inflammatory along with its regenerative properties. Unlike temporary symptom relief from steroid injections or medications, A2M injections have the potential to rejuvenate, repair, and heal damaged tissue and cartilage. A2M is injected directly into the area of damaged tissue. Below are the 3 primary effects of A2M injections:
- Protease Inhibition: A2M acts as a broad-spectrum proteinase inhibitor. By inhibiting these enzymes, A2M helps prevent tissue damage and inflammation.
- Cytokine Binding: A2M inhibits cytokines, which are signaling molecules involved in inflammation. By reducing cytokine activity, A2M helps protect joint cartilage from catabolic reactions and inflammation
- Cartilage Degeneration Prevention: A2M can postpone cartilage degeneration.
What Are PRP & A2M Combo Injections:
For patients looking to both maximize healing and reduce inflammation, the combination of PRP and A2M is ideal. Both A2M and PRP can be extracted from the same blood draw and then combined into the same injection. Below are the main synergistic effects of PRP and A2M:
- PRP acts as a builder, promoting the growth of new healthy tissue
- A2M acts as a shield, stopping the cytokines and enzymes that cause damage
PRP & A2M Potential Benefits:
- Pain Relief
- Improved joint function
- Reduced inflammation
- Accelerated tissue healing
- Arthritis healing
- Injury healing
- Tendon and ligament healing
How Are PRP And A2M Made?
- Step 1: Blood Draw: Blood is drawn from the patient in office
- Step 2: Centrifugation: The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate plasma
- Step 3: PRP Isolation: Sterilized kits are used to extract PRP from the blood
- Step 4: A2M Isolation: Additional filtration isolates the A2M from the blood
- Step 5: Injection: Concentrated PRP and/or A2M are combined and injected into problem areas
What Other Therapies Combine Well With PRP & A2M?
Focused Shockwave is our strongest “pre-treatment” for PRP and A2M injections. Focused Shockwave sends acoustic waves up to 4 inches into the tissue to break up adhesions and stimulate healing. This creates the ideal healing environment for the PRP and A2M to heal damaged tissue.
HBOT and Red Light Therapy are great post-treatment options to enhance the overall healing effects of PRP & A2M injections. These therapies deliver oxygen and circulation into the injection site while also promoting systemic healing.
What PRP and A2M Systems Are Used At The AIM Clinic?
We use PRP and A2M kits from EmCyte which is a top regenerative injection innovator in the United States.
EmCyte’s PurePRP® is uniquely classified as Supraphysiologic PRP. It optimizes the double spin technique, capturing essential requirements needed to exceed clinical requisites for deliverable platelets. The system yields a powerful treatment sample with more than 1 billion platelets per milliliter in a plasma bath. For patients, needing extremely concentrated treatment, we can concentrate over 24 billion platelets in 1 milliliter! These charts show the different platelet concentrations possible with EmCyte PRP. To learn more about EmCyte PRP kits, see below video:
EmCyte’s A2M Plasma Concentrate produces uniquely high levels of A2M. For instance, a recent study found EmCyte delivered A2M amounts of 7481 μg/mL while a leading competitor had just 4291 μg/mL in a 5.6 mL sample. To learn more about EmCyte A2M kits, see below video:
What are the different PRP & A2M injection options?
- PRP 30cc Kit (1-2 injections)
- PRP 60cc Kit (2-4 injections)
- PRP 120cc Kit (4-8 injections)
- A2M Kit (4-8 injections)
- PRP 120cc & A2M Kit - (4-8 injections)
After Treatment Care:
Typically, the only side effect of PRP & A2M injections can be some soreness at the injection site which typically resolves within a week. PRP & A2M injections help the treatment area heal over time so wait a month to determine your new baseline after treatment. The amount of treatments needed depend on the severity of the damage and the individual’s overall health. PRP & A2M injections can be repeated monthly until your symptoms resolve. Most patients only need 2-4 rounds of treatment to reach their desired goals.
