HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy)

HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy)

HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy) is a whole-body treatment that boosts your natural healing processes by inhaling pure oxygen in a pressurized medical chamber.

It enhances your body’s ability to heal, reduce inflammation, and fight infections.

What is HBOT (Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy)?

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment in which you breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized environment. We administer this therapy in a specially designed chamber that delivers increased oxygen and circulation directly to your tissues, promoting faster healing and reduction in infections.

Treatment time and pressure for sessions are determined by our providers based on your specific condition and goals.

What Health Conditions Can HBOT Address?

Due to its broad health benefits, there are numerous conditions that HBOT can be beneficial for.

The FDA-approved uses include:

  • Carbon monoxide poisoning
  • Gas gangrene
  • Air or gas embolism
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Radiation injuries from cancer treatments
  • Severe burns
  • Skin grafts

The research-backed off-label uses include:

  • Lyme disease & co-infections
  • Arthritis
  • Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Mold toxicity
  • Tinnitus
  • Irritable bowel disease (IBD)
  • Brain fog
  • Pain & inflammation
  • Concussion
  • Stroke
  • Surgery & oral surgery
  • Dementia
  • Parkinson's disease
  • Cancer
  • Cardiac problems
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Nerve damage
  • Athletic & injury recovery
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Migraines
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Preventative wellness & anti-aging
  • CRPS (complex regional pain syndrome)
  • Spinal cord injury

How Does HBOT Work?

In HBOT, you enter a hyperbaric chamber that has increased atmospheric pressure and breathe 100% oxygen from a mask. This high-pressure environment increases the amount of oxygen your blood can carry. By pressurizing the body, oxygen-rich blood gets “pushed” deep into areas that are otherwise hard to reach, like the brain, joints, and damaged tissue. This results in increased oxygen and improved circulation.

Elevated levels of oxygen in the blood and tissue enhance the body's natural healing processes by promoting the growth of new blood vessels, reducing inflammation, and supporting cellular regeneration. The increased oxygen availability helps your white blood cells kill infections more effectively and stimulates the release of growth factors and stem cells, aiding in tissue regeneration.

What are the Benefits of HBOT?

The benefits of HBOT are extensive. It accelerates wound healing, reduces swelling and inflammation, and promotes angiogenesis, which is the formation of new blood vessels.

This therapy can help reduce infection levels, heal damaged tissues, enhance your body’s ability to fight certain types of infections, aid in the recovery from traumatic injuries and surgeries, and improve overall tissue health and function.

HBOT can significantly improve the quality of life of people suffering from chronic and acute medical conditions by boosting their body's healing processes.

What are Examples of HBOT Research?

There are thousands of HBOT studies showing benefits. Below are examples of the extensive research:

What is a Typical HBOT Treatment Frequency?

For optimal results, we recommend the following general session guidelines however this depends on the individual and what other treatments one is doing.

  • Positive outcome: Most individuals benefit from a minimum of 5 sessions.
  • Major shifts: To experience significant changes, studies suggest at least 10 sessions.
  • Individual variability: Depending on individual circumstances, some may require 10, 20, 40, or even 80 sessions based on their condition or goals.

How Long are HBOT Treatments?

The HBOT treatment (known as a dive), is typically scheduled for 75 minutes inside a transparent hyperbaric oxygen chamber while breathing high dose oxygen. For some specific protocols, the session could be up to 120 minutes.

While in the chamber, one wears a mask for breathing oxygen while reading, watching TV, or resting based on their preferred comfortable experience.

What Kind of Chambers Does The AIM Clinic Use?

At The AIM Clinic, we use only medical-grade FDA-approved hard-shell chambers where studies show proven outcomes. Unfortunately, many wellness centers only offer softshell “mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy” which do not deliver levels of oxygen and pressure needed to heal most conditions.

Our HBOT treatment is medical grade and provides 100% oxygen at pressures up to 3 ATA (equivalent to 69 feet scuba diving). Your treatment pressure is determined by your condition and goals.

How are HBOT Treatments Monitored?

Our team is trained to provide a process that makes our patients feel comfortable and able to complete their sessions. We have a team member next to you for the entire treatment to make any adjustments needed. Be sure and let us know in advance if you feel you may experience any anxiety.

We tailor our HBOT treatments to your unique needs.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. We'll create a personalized treatment plan that addresses your specific symptoms and concerns.
