Integrative Concussion
& Traumatic Brain Injury Care
We offer comprehensive, integrative care for individuals experiencing concussion symptoms and the long-term effects of traumatic brain injury (TBI).
We understand that head injury, whether from sports, accidents, or other trauma, can have a profound impact on your life. Our approach combines cutting-edge diagnostics with personalized, holistic treatments to support your concussion recovery and optimize brain health.
Sign of Head Injury
Head injury signs can vary depending on severity, but they may include loss of consciousness, confusion, slurred speech, and unequal pupil size. Years later, symptoms can include chronic headaches, cognitive decline, mood disorders, memory loss, seizures and persistent neurological issues.
What is a Concussion?
A concussion is defined as a type of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head that can change the way your brain normally functions.
Common Concussion Symptoms
These symptoms can show up days or weeks after the initial injury.
Headaches
Dizziness
Nausea
Confusion
Memory problems
Sensitivity to light and noise
Sleep disturbances
What is a Traumatic Brain Injury?
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) encompasses a broader range of injuries, including more severe impacts that may result in brain injury symptoms and brain injury long term symptoms.
Common TBI Symptoms
Headaches
Dizziness
Nausea
Confusion
Memory problems
Sensitivity to light and noise
Sleep disturbances
Cognitive deficits
Emotional instability
Seizures
Motor impairments
The long-term effects can vary greatly, but often include cognitive, emotional, and physical challenges.
Concussion Testing & Assessment
Accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective concussion treatment. Our concussion clinic utilizes advanced diagnostic tools to assess brain function and identify underlying issues.
Concussion Eye Test
This innovative technology provides objective data on eye movements, which can be significantly affected by head injury concussion. It helps identify subtle neurological deficits that may not be apparent in traditional exams. It is a valuable tool for head injury assessment and tracking concussion rehab progress and provides a much more objective method of testing than standard concussion exams.
Blood Marker Testing
We assess key blood markers to identify inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and other physiological imbalances that can hinder concussion recovery. This includes testing for inflammatory markers, vitamin D, vitamins B12 & folate, magnesium, zinc, iron, omega 3, and hormone levels (ex. testosterone, estrogen, progesterone). This blood work can help understand the body's ability to heal, and what deficiencies need to be addressed.
Integrative Concussion Treatment & Protocol
Our concussion protocol focuses on a personalized, integrative approach to support brain healing and restore function. We develop individualized plans based on your specific needs and symptoms. This may include a combination of therapies, lifestyle modifications, and nutritional support.
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)
HBOT increases oxygen delivery to the brain, promoting tissue repair and reducing inflammation. It is our strongest brain healing therapy and is thus our top TBI and concussion treatment. We recommend at least ten HBOT treatments for TBI and concussion recovery. EyeBox testing is recommended after every ten HBOT treatment to help determine if further treatment is needed.
Nutritional Supplements
Targeted supplements can support brain function, reduce inflammation, and enhance recovery. We may recommend omega-3 fatty acids, curcumin, creatine, and other brain-boosting nutrients.
Methylene Blue
This compounded medication has shown promise in improving mitochondrial function and cognitive performance after TBI.
IV Therapy
Concussion Protocol
IV Glutathione: A powerful antioxidant that heals brain cells from damage.
IV B12 (Methylcobalamin): Supports nerve and brain healing.
IV Magnesium: Reduces inflammation and promotes brain healing
Full Body
Red Light Therapy
Red light therapy stimulates mitochondria, leading to increased ATP production. This can reduce neuroinflammation, a key factor in TBI and concussion, and promote cellular repair throughout the brain and body.
CVAC
CVAC (Cyclic Variations in Adaptive Conditioning) therapy helps accelerate neurologic healing by increasing brain circulation and VO2 max levels.
Addressing Musculoskeletal (MSK) Issues Following TBI or Concussion
Beyond cognitive and neurological symptoms, traumatic brain injury (TBI) and head injury concussion can often lead to significant musculoskeletal (MSK) complications. These issues can stem from the initial trauma, secondary effects of neurological dysfunction, or compensatory movement patterns developed during recovery.
Common MSK problems include:
Chronic neck pain and stiffness
Headaches related to cervical spine dysfunction
Shoulder and back pain
Balance and gait disturbances leading to muscle imbalances
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction
Muscle spasticity and weakness
These MSK issues can significantly impact concussion recovery, hindering physical rehabilitation and contributing to persistent pain and discomfort. Our integrative approach addresses these problems with targeted therapies, including:
Focused Shockwave Therapy
This non-invasive treatment uses high-energy sound waves to stimulate tissue healing and reduce pain and inflammation. It is effective for treating chronic tendon injuries, muscle tightness, and joint pain often associated with TBI and concussion. Shockwave therapy can help alleviate pain in the neck, shoulders, and back, improving mobility and function.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections
PRP therapy utilizes concentrated platelets from your own blood to promote tissue repair and regeneration. It’s beneficial for treating ligament injuries, tendon tears, and joint pain that may result from trauma or compensatory movement patterns. PRP injections can accelerate healing and reduce pain in areas affected by MSK dysfunction.
Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M) Injections
A2M is a naturally occurring protein in the blood that inhibits enzymes responsible for cartilage breakdown and inflammation. A2M injections can be used to treat joint pain, trigger points, and osteoarthritis, which can be exacerbated by TBI-related movement impairments. This therapy can help protect and restore joint health, improving mobility and reducing pain.
Addressing Brain Injury in Sports & Concussion Care
We understand the unique challenges faced by athletes who experience brain injury in football, hockey, and other contact sports. Our concussion care is tailored to address the specific needs of athletes and support their safe return to play.
